Day1: Arrival. There’s the opportunity to stay at our Eco Village camp or on Baobob Island, or for pick up from your hotel.
Day 2: Today we leave our accommodation and drive south, crossing the border into Senegal at Jiboro / Seleti. But, of course we’ll stop on the way to view local wild life and visit colourful markets. We stop for lunch in Ziguinchor before continuing our journey. In the afternoon, we stop at the village museum in Oussouye and maybe, just maybe, we will meet the Animist King. Arriving in the village of Elinkin, we board a boat to the island of Carabane (Ile de Karabane) and stay overnight in an eco lodge or hotel (e.g. le Barracuda or Hotel Carabane).
Day 3: After breakfast, we take a boat trip through the bolong and cross the Casamance River to the explore the fishing village of Diogué, looking out for dolphins on the way! Later, there’s a chance to tour the island of Carabane itself, visiting old French colonial buildings including the old Catholic mission and ruins of buildings used to hold slaves. There’s much colonial history here, even the Hotel Carabane was formerly the French governor’s house!
Day 4: It’s time to leave Carabane – unless you want another day here to chill out, enjoy more delicious local seafood and, maybe, a dip in the sea. After breakfast, we head back towards Elinkin, stopping off to walk through rice fields and spot wildlife and birds. Then, it’s onwards towards the pleasant coastal town of Cap Skirring, where we’ll stay overnight.
Day 5: There’s time to take it easy on the beach this morning before we visit the markets of Cap Skirring for a bit of shopping, and lunch, before we continue our journey, crossing the border back into the Gambia. Tonight we either stay at our Eco Village camp, or on Baobab Island, and spend a farewell meal together.
Day 6: After breakfast, there’s a chance for some final shopping in the markets of Brikama, before the tour ends, and we drop you at your hotel and say our farewell.
